Why Two-Factor-Authentication (2FA) is so important?

2FA (also known as 2-Step verification) is an additional layer of security used to ensure only authenticated users gain access to an online account. A user will enter their username and password as usual. Then, rather than gaining access, they will be required to provide additional information such as a code from an Authenticator app, or code sent by SMS.

Note: other authentication options are also available depending on the online application.

One of the main reasons why we recommend adding 2FA is because 90% of passwords can be cracked in less than six hours and two-thirds of people use the same password for all accounts.   

With 2FA, a potential compromise of one of these factors will not compromise the account itself. So, even if your password is stolen or your phone is lost, the chances of someone else having access to both factors is highly unlikely.
